The International Experience Canada (IEC) program instructions have been revised significantly to improve consistency and compliance. Updates include clarifications regarding:

  • the role of border services officers at ports of entry
  • immigration medical examinations
  • dependants
  • passport validity
  • re-use of the certificato di residenza
  • discontinuance for dual citizenship holders
  • police certificates, including clearer instructions on how to manage delays in receiving police certificates and the documents that may be requested if further clarification is needed
  • best practices for issuing work permits, including enhanced verification procedures, improved record management in the Global Case Management System (GCMS), and more efficient processes for reissuing and correcting permits
  • updates to sector roles and responsibilities following departmental reorganization
  • removal of Ukraine and Mexico from the list of eligible countries, ensuring the program aligns with current policies
  • correction to the validity period for Australian International Co-op applicants
  • Dutch post-secondary students can submit an official letter from their educational institution confirming that the TEER 4 employment is related to their field of study
